How to Create A Housekeeping Checklist

1. Take Inventory

Grab a writing instrument and a clipboard or a notebook. Walk around the warehouse; room by room, and take a realistic inventory of the areas and cleaning tasks that will be included in the cleaning checklist.

2. List All the Cleaning Tasks That Needs to be Done in Every Room

Beside each room category, list down all the cleaning tasks that should be done. Below are some examples of the cleaning tasks you can include in your checklist:

  1. Warehouse Interiors: Sweep floors, and empty the trash. Make sure all workspaces stay free of debris or spills that can pose hazards and risks in injuries and hazards. Check the sturdiness and safe condition of shelves and pallets. Check all equipment if they are all operating properly. Organize all things stacked in the storage room. Make sure to properly label all hazardous materials and they are stored securely. Inspect and deep-clean floor coatings in warehouse workspaces.
  2. Offices and Break Rooms: Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors. Sanitize all touchpoints and surfaces. Wipe with a clean cloth all counters wall partitions, and baseboards. Dust light fixtures, overhead lights, and ceiling fans. Polish window and door frames and hardware. Deep clean carpets, and furniture upholstery seasonally. Sanitize the refrigerators and cabinets. Test all fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems of the warehouse every two months to see if they are properly working.
  3. Bathrooms: Sanitize sinks, countertops, toilets, urinals, doors, partitions, and grab bars. Refill toilet paper, towel, and soap dispensers. Restock supplies in cabinets. Clean the bathroom sink and floor drains and check for signs of clogs. Check also for any leaks in the pipes, mold, and mildew growing on walls and corners, and cabinets.  
  4. Exteriors: Sweep walkways, stairways, and landings. Exterior doors and emergency exits are clean and free of obstacles. Loading docks should be clear of any trash. Check for lights that are burned out, and check if security equipment systems are working properly.  Clear entryways and loading docks from obstructions and check them for weathered equipment. Clean the exterior area.

3.  Schedule a Regular Date of Cleaning Your Warehouse

Designate each warehouse employee an area where they’re responsible for keeping it clean regularly. Don’t forget to provide each employee with all equipment and supplies they need to clean the area that they’re designated. Give them ample time to clean the area they are assigned to clean and let them take note of how long the cleaning process took them.
