If you will do an online application, remember that before downloading your resume, the first thing that the employer will do is to read your cover letter.
E-mail cover letters are just the same as cover letters attached to resumes during the physical application process. The only difference is that rather than giving it personally, an e-mail cover letter is either attached on your application e-mail or can be seen in the main body of your online application.
Here are some Sample Cover Letters that you may take reference at.

An e-mail cover letter must have the following standards so it can give your hiring process a chance to move up:
- Professionally written content
- An organized association and interpretation of idea
- It should be clear
- Thoughts seen in the cover letter must be aligned to your job application
- Correct usage of grammar and spelling
- A precise subject line
- Warm yet professional salutations and standard ending
- Dynamic information about the applicant and his or her skills and abilities
- Brief and direct to the point sentence and paragraph construction
- Includes all the specifics about the job being applied for
Consider the e-mail cover letter as an extension of your application process. Think of it is the introduction of who you are, what can you do for the company, and what can they expect from you should you be hired.
Do not think about putting so much, as two to three paragraphs would be enough. Remember that it should not bore the employer, so your e-mail cover letter must use keywords and items that are only essential for your job application.

Before you send your online application, remember to know the rules of the company regarding their online application process. Being able to follow them (or not) can take a big impact in your hiring procedures.
There are some companies that specifically want both the resume and the cover letter to be attachments. If this is the case, just put your prepared cover letter on Word or PDF format then attach it together with your resume. If there are no further instructions regarding this matter, I suggest you put your cover letter in the body of your e-mail for easier viewing.
Also, do not forget to read your cover letter a few times before sending it. You should be able to input the correct details and be sure that there are no errors that are present.
I suggest that you put your message in the drafts first or do a test send to yourself so that you can view your cover letter first as to how it will be viewed by your prospect employer.
These tips may not provide hiring assurance, but they sure do help you be a cut above other online applicants.
If you want to write your own e-mail cover letter, or just a cover letter in general, but does not have any idea on how to write one, our Sample Application Cover Letters may help you regarding your problem.
