As its name implies, productivity skills are skills that will help you keep up with a busy schedule and make you effective at work.
What Are Productivity Skills?
Productivity skills can be defined as skills that help individuals or teams complete tasks within a specific time. They are essential survival skills ideal for a busy work environment. Productivity skills are necessary because being productive is a great deal for everyone, not just those who are working. These skills help employees to become more effective at work. As a result, an increase in the company’s sales and other activities is achieved. Can you learn productivity skills? The answer is, yes. After a skills assessment, employees who need training are enrolled in a productivity skills training class. Productivity skills examples include time management skills, prioritization skills, quick decision-making skills, and the ability to use work or life hacks in actual situations.
There are also productivity skills that you need to learn based on your profession or what you want to accomplish. If you’re doing technical work, then you need to learn technical skills to increase productivity. If you’re with marketing, then you’ll need marketing skills. Other productivity skills for specific jobs or tasks are office productivity skills, online productivity skills, and personal productivity skills, to name a few.
“No” for Productivity
You know that you’re not productive when work is pilling-up, you’re pretty stressed, and you are not making any progress with your to-do list. You’re doing everything you can, yet you are still not productive. You could be one of those yes-men with a yes-mentality. Saying yes to every work given to you will surely backfire. This explains why your work piles-up. A lot of work deadlines to think about is overwhelming and stressful. If you’re stressed, you can’t function at an optimal level and this affects your work productivity. The worst thing that could happen to an unproductive employee is saying goodbye to your job. That’ll definitely hurt.
So if you have a yes-mentality, it’s not too late to change now. Saying no to a new task or job when your hands are full is never wrong. And your employer will not hate you for that. We can only do so much as human beings and everyone should keep that in mind. Learning to say no when work is too much will help you increase your productivity and become more effective at work. How to Be Productive at Work
Productivity at work starts with a positive work attitude and a lot of other work-affecting factors. Here’s what you can do to acquire productivity skills and become effective at work.
Step #1: Prioritize tasks.
Work on important tasks first and do less important tasks last. Using a checklist template helps in prioritizing tasks and serves as reminders for the rest of the things that you need to do.
Step #2: Be organized.
It’s easy to locate the things that you need if they are organized. Office tools or materials that are in their right places speeds up the completion of a task. An organized work environment is also a good work motivation.
Step #3: Stay focused.
Stay focused at work by simply following proper work decorum. Mobile phone use and loud noises are the main distractions at work so you should avoid them. You’ll also be distracted with the work you have left so you should stop thinking about it and write it on a printable to-do list instead.
Step #4: Avoid multitasking.
Sometimes, multitasking can do you more harm than good. If you multitask, you’ll just be distracted with all the incomplete tasks that you need to do. It’s better to do one thing at a time.
Step #5: Learn to say “no”.
Before you say “yes” to a new job or task, check first how much workload you have left. If your schedule is full, politely say “no” and the reason why. Saying no doesn’t mean you’re lazy and it doesn’t mean you’re not capable of doing the job. It just means that your schedule can’t accommodate another job or task.
Step #6: Take a break.
If you want to be productive, you need to take care of yourself, too. Taking a break or a breather from work is a must. Enjoying a cup of coffee or cold drinks will not hurt your productivity. Always listen to your body. If you’re hungry because it’s lunchtime, then go eat. If you need to go to the restroom, then go. Just be mindful of how long you take your breaks.
