Steps in Writing an Informative Essay
Informative essays require for the writer to investigate and explore ideas, evaluate evidence relating to it and utilizing these evidence to expound on the idea, and come up with a strong new hypothesis concerning the idea in a clear and organized manner. Writing these kinds of essays can be accomplished in the following steps:
-
Brainstorm. Unless given specific instructions, a writer is usually given freedom on picking a topic for their essays. If a general topic was given, the writer could look further and deeper into a less explored aspect of the topic and write about it. Brainstorming, aside from helping the writer pick a topic, also creates a general outline of the essay as it gives the writer an idea of what and how information are connected to each other.
-
Choose a topic. Make sure to dig deep and find a topic that answers a question and is not too broad. This prevents the headache of having more to write than time and resources to study the entire scope would permit.
-
Research. Find credible sources for information that would be included in the essay. Read academic journal articles and make use of resources like the books in the library and newspapers.
