More people nowadays tend to purchase goods and services from the comfort of their homes or base of operations, and have it delivered right into their doorstep. The popularity of being able to buy any sort of product and service anywhere and have it delivered directly to your door has greatly dominated the modern world, especially in more urban areas. What Is a Service Delivery Note?

Essentially, a delivery note works like a checklist that is included in every delivery that is made to a customer. The checklist contains a list of items that is enclosed in the shipment, as well as the quantity and description of each item. A delivery note helps with keeping track of the delivery and is also used to review each item by providing an overview of their orders that they can compare to. The benefits of the document goes both ways as aside from helping the recipient with the review of their orders, a signed copy is also sent to the suppliers to let them know that the delivery was a success and it met the customer’s satisfactions. It’s important to take note that the document lists quantities, not values. It only includes the description and quantities of each item, the values of each item such as prices and taxes included are only reflected on the invoice, which is a completely different document. In this case, a service delivery note works exactly the same way, but lists the name and nature of the service instead, not items.

What Should Be Included in a Service Delivery Note

You have a completely free rein on creating a delivery note. And since it’s not compulsory, there really are no fixed fields that you have to include. The format of your delivery note entirely depends on the scale and nature of your shipment.  Although despite of this, it is still heavily advised to use a template like the samples listed above. A template should be able to help you keep track of every information that you include, and make sure that you’re not missing the most important components, making it complete. These are some of the recommended components to be included in a service delivery note.

  • Contact Information
Always include the basic contact information of your company like the company name, company address, contact numbers, and a website if you have one. It’s also advised to have the contact information of the recipient included as well.
  • Date
Follow a proper and uniform dating system when you put the dates. And when you put the dates, make sure that it is complete. Dates such as the date of purchase, date of shipment, and the date of delivery.
  • Name of order and order number
  • Packing list
Names of the services included in the delivery, quantity, and the descriptions
  • Subsequent deliveries
Note that this section will only be included when subsequent deliveries have or will be made.

This is a pretty basic checklist, it should only cover what sensible information should be included. Again, if you feel like adding more, then that entirely depends on your delivery and the services that you will deliver.
