Responsibilities of a High School Coach

A high school coach is an expert on the rules and regulations of any sport they focus on and they teach the students how to play that type of sport. Sometimes, they also teach physical education to students too. A coach decides which students are qualified to make a particular sports team by holding tryouts for athletes and training during the preseason matches. Furthermore, they strategically assign student-athletes on what positions they have in their team based on their skills, make game strategies, and design practice skills to equip students with enough knowledge on how to play the sport and win the match.  A coach also guides the students in every game match and analyzes them to identify which areas these students should improve on.

How to Make a High School Coach Contract

1. Employment Period

The first section of the contract must state important details regarding the employment period of the coach such as the type of employment (part-time or full-time) the teacher has, the date when the coach is hired, and up until the date when their contract expires. Don’t forget to include your terms and conditions regarding the renewal of the coach’s contract.

2. Working Hours

Another important section to include in the contract is the number of hours of work that the coach has to do in a week depending on the type of employment they have. Include the time they will start and the time they will end their work on each day of the week they are supposed to report for work.

3. Responsibilities of the Coach

This section must list down responsibilities and duties of the coach during their tenure in the high school. It must also state other duties that they are expected to do outside of coaching athletes of a particular sports team such as teaching classes, participating in staff meetings, conferences, and other school activities. You can also include the school faculty rules that the coach must follow and observe.

4. Termination of Contract

This clause is one of the most important things to be included in the contract. It should list all the grounds for the termination of the employment of the coach in the school. Make sure to discuss these terms with the coach before the contract signing.

5. Salary and Benefits

This section must state the total amount of the coach’s salary per month,  including the amount of taxes deductions, additional benefits (insurance, housing, transportation), bonuses, raises, overtime pay, and the dates of payment for the salary month.
