Dogs are undoubtedly a man’s best friend. They are the little creatures, aside from cats, bunnies, and other household pets, that make people happy, especially when they are down and in need of a good cuddle. Dogs are also very useful in many aspects since they can do everything when trained carefully and well. They can guard the house, they can be of service to those who are incapacitated, assist in special military operational plans, and can even detect some illness that is unknown to man. What Is a Puppy Contract?

Like any contract agreement, a puppy contract is a legally binding contract between a dog breeder/seller and their buyers/vendees. The contract states the roles and responsibilities of both parties in the care of a puppy, such as medical vaccinations, warranty, guarantees, finance, and other terms and conditions fitting for the agreement. A puppy contract is acknowledged by some countries worldwide, especially if they are entered into by both parties in good faith.

How to Write A Puppy Contract?

Are you interested in creating a good puppy contract that you can use at any time? If so, we recommend that you download a puppy contract template first! With a template, you will never have to worry about writing anything from scratch again. To kickstart your writing tasks, we have prepared several tips that will help you create a professional contract.

1. Indicate Breeder and Client Details

First, you will need to write down your details as well as your clients. Include contact information such as your full names, addresses (can be home or office addresses), e-mail addresses, or contact numbers. This vital information is important because both parties should be able to know the identity of each other, just in case there are issues to address and discuss. The clients will also know who to look for when they have questions.

2. Include Vaccination Details

While the client might get a vaccination card when they pick up the puppy from you, you still need to include the details of their vaccination on the contract. If the puppy has already been vaccinated, write down the details of the vaccine such as its name, and the date of vaccination, and if there’s still another procedure left, include that too. Some clients are very particular in that area as they want to be assured that the puppy has already gotten the vaccination it needs and that they do not need to run to the veterinarian clinic for any issues that may arise due to misinformation.

3. Provide a Warranty

Most of the time, some pets have health defects that do not manifest until they are beyond 1 month old. If the client happens to buy a puppy with an illness that showed after they bought it from you, chances are they would want to replace the puppy with a healthier one. With that, you might as well include a clause that you can exchange the puppy for another one within 30 days at most. (But, let’s just hope that some owners may have the heart to get the puppy treated without exchanging them for another one.)

4. Name Your Price

Last but not least, include the price of the puppy on your contract. If there’s enough space to do so, then you can provide a cost breakdown to give the client an idea of how much they should pay and what they are paying their money for. Be careful not to overprice as some owners already do have knowledge of how much one breed puppy costs and they might sue you for overpricing or receive backlash which is bad for your business.

Can a breeder name a puppy?

Yes, a breeder can name the puppy before it is given to its new owner. However, the new owner does still have the right to change the name if they think the name does not fit their preference or the characteristics of the puppy.

How many types of dogs are there in the world?

Currently, there are 7 types of dogs that are classified into categories such as sports, work, and toys.

What are some dog breeds?

The top dog breeds in the world include German shepherds, Labradors, Golden retrievers, Shih Tzu, Bulldogs, Beagles, Pomeranians, Akita, and Siberian Huskies.

Breeding and taking care of a beautiful creature such as a dog needs not just time and money, but also dedication and love for them.
