One of the highlights of every Christmas day party is the giving of gifts. People are anticipating what they would be receiving that year and hoping that it would be useful to them in the future. However, no matter how heartfelt the gift is, some receivers don’t actually appreciate them not because it is inexpensive or unattractive, but simply because they cannot use the item for themselves. That is why, to prevent this kind of situation, people would write down a wish list in the hopes that the giver would give them what they really wanted.

What Is a Secret Santa Wish List?
A secret Santa wish list is a type of itemized list where people would write down what they want to get on Christmas. Those who have picked the receiver’s name during the raffle would be the Secret Santa and choose one (or two) items from the list to give during the exchange of gifts. The secret Santa tradition was started by a philanthropist named Larry Dean Stewart by giving out $100 bills to random people as mystery gifts.
How to Make a Secret Santa Wish List?
Making a wish list is pretty easy. All you have to do is get materials for writing where everyone can share their ideas of what they want to receive from their Secret Santa. Make them as creative as possible by following the steps below which we have prepared for you.
1. List Down the Names of Participants
The first thing you will need to do is make a list of names of the people who will be participating in the Secret Santa exchanging gift tradition. You can even write your name as well on the paper if you are joining in on the fun, too. Your list need not be organized since everyone will just look for their name and write their wishes on the paper. On the other hand, write those names again on another little piece of paper that you will roll thereafter for the raffle.
2. Provide a Space for Wishes
Besides every name, provide a space where they can write down the items they would like to receive on Christmas. You do not have to worry about what they would be writing on the paper, such as expensive items, especially if you have a price limit on things that should be gifted. At most, let them write down 5 things they would like to receive from their gifter so that the latter will have no problem narrowing down what they should be buying to fit the indicated amount required by the host.
3. Give It a Creative Look
If you want to give it a classy, creative, or festive look, then feel free to change the design of the wish list by adding graphic designs and other decorative images. This will really enhance the look of the wish list, plus it would look good on the wall when you finally post it so that the other participants will see what others have written for their wish list.
4. Post It Where It Can Be Seen
For participants to easily identify what they would like to buy for their receiver, it would be best to share it with them by posting it on the wall or in your bulletin board. This way, they won’t have to ask you time and again for the list so they can take a look at it and give away their identity to someone as their Secret Santa.
I am a Secret Santa to someone who did not put on their wish list. What should I do?
Being a Secret Santa means you are not allowed to show yourself to your giftee since it would truly ruin the very meaning of the tradition of giving gifts mysteriously. If your giftee has not put their wish list, then encourage them subtly to write one or two items or better yet, have the host announce a deadline for writing wishes so they will be notified and prompted.
Printed or digitized: what is the best way to write a wish list?
It depends on the convenience of the participants and the availability of technology on their part. If you are doing Secret Santa somewhere remote with low access to the Internet, we suggest that you provide the wish list in printed format.
When should the Secret Santa wish list be written?
You can prepare your Secret Santa wish list as early as December or late November to give more time for preparation and shopping of gifts before the exchange gift day.
Nothing compares to the joy and excitement of knowing that the receiver of your gift truly loved and appreciated your gift. That is why we recommend that you make a wish list that will help gifters find the perfect present for their giftees with ease.
