Don’t Get into Too Much Detail
A letter of resignation is a business letter and should be treated as such. Steer clear from divulging too many personal details as to why you have decided to resign. If your reasons for leaving are personal, you can always just say that your reason for resigning is due to personal situations, or relocation, taking a master’s degree, etc.
Do Offer Assistance
Offer to assist other members of providing information, providing training, or looking for a replacement while you still have the time. Your two weeks’ notice will allow other members to nominate a replacement and to fill the new candidate in about the job responsibilities.
Do Ask for a Reference
Being a member of a board can add more weight to your resume because it showcases your ability to become part of group where you are able to contribute to an organization or a community. In connection to this, ask your co-members or the head of the board for a reference or a recommendation, which will help you in your future job search.
