As the first thing hiring managers see from an applicant, resumes need to make a good first impression in your place. In order for you to even be considered for the position you are applying for, you would need to follow the correct format of a resume. You should write your full contact information, a strong Career Summary, work experiences, skill, and educational background.
What Not to Include in Your Resume
Resumes are usually one to two pages long and so it is important to only include things that are truly relevant for the job you are applying for. Be concise and direct to the point when making your resume. You do not want any unnecessary information on there. These things that are totally unnecessary in the resume could get you out of consideration for the position you are applying for. It is also a good idea to make a comparison of curriculum vitae (CV) vs resume so that you don’t get confused between the two.
- Long Paragraphs – Long paragraphs discourage readers from reading the entirety of your resume. Be sure to provide subheadings on your resume and use bullets as much as possible.
- Irrelevant Experiences – You should only include the experiences where you gained relevant skills from.
- Personal Information – Things such as age, sex, religion, and so on should be left out of the resume as they could be used for discriminatory purposes against you.
- Photograph – A lot of applicants fall into this trap. But unless you are applying for a job that requires you to look presentable all the time (e.g., model or actor), leave out the photo.
- Low GPAs – You don’t want to advertise the low grades you got, so don’t include them unless you got really high grades.
- Name and Contacts of Previous Employers – Don’t include them but be sure to have them readily available.
- Objectives Stating What You Want – Do not focus on what you would gain when given the chance but instead mention things that you will be able to offer to the company when they hire you.

- Be sure to provide quantifiable results.

- Include keywords and action verbs in the resume.
- Write down your update contact information.
- Proofread.
- Don’t go over two pages.
