Resume for First Job Format

With or without experience, resumes, in general, are detailed documents about your achievements and skills. All resumes follow the same general format, but for first job resumes, it may come with a few modifications:

  • Personal and contact information – These elements are included to make it easier for recruiters to contact you.
  • Objectives – Be straightforward and mention in your resume what your goals are.
  • Qualifications – Highlight your relevant skills and qualifications with a brief explanation about how you garnered such.
  • Educational background – List down the schools you’ve been involved with and the inclusive dates of attendance.
  • Work experience, if any – If you do not have any work experience, list down any life experience that may be relevant. Extracurricular activities, clubs, and awards may also be listed.
  • Interests – List down leisure activities that exhibit other areas of your life.

What to Write As Experience

There may have been other relative instances in your life that could be the push that you need for when you are applying for your first job. Since you lack relevant work experience, you can list down other experiences that you may have encountered that may be compatible with the position you are applying for. Some of these experiences include the following:

  • Volunteer work
Paid or not paid, and whether you were a volunteer in your local community or you volunteered someplace else, it must be definitely included.  This gives the impression that you have the drive to work.
  • Clubs and sports
Being in a sports club or any club that demonstrates teamwork illustrates that you can be an excellent team player.
  • Small jobs
These may include babysitting your aunt’s kids or tutoring the neighbors’ kids. They may not seem much, but they demonstrate a way of how your character was built.
  • Awards received
Writing this down gives the impression that you are an achiever and that you strive for excellence.

Despite the fact that you may lack work experience, your other experience may just be what the recruiters need to know if you are the one that they are looking for.
