Depending on how large the company is, a logistics supervisor has a lot of responsibilities. Besides handling shipping, deliveries, and materials, he oversees the logistics flow in every department to ensure they have the needed supplies vital to the efficiency and smooth progression of operations. His usual place of work though is in the warehouse where various items and materials are stored since he has to equate the quantity of the items in stock with the items being sold or requested by the sellers or individual departments.

Besides all the logistical considerations and inventory management, he has the following responsibilities:

  • preparing monthly reports on purchases and submitting each report to the accounting department together with all accompanying invoices, purchase order receipts, and goods receipts;
  • monitoring the inflow, outflow, and promptness of deliveries of items on the warehouse;
  • arrange deliveries in both domestic and foreign shipping;
  • ensuring replacement of damaged or incorrectly supplied items;
  • plans the layout of the warehouse to ensure efficiency and orderly layout for easy location access of all items; and
  • developing procedures on stock transaction and training employees on proper material handling.

Aside from these responsibilities, the logistics supervisor also needs to schedule visits from managers of various departments for scheduling requirements of stocks for their departments. He also has to contact maintenance personnel and supervise any work done on the warehouse and address security concerns to prevent loss of any valuable items inside the warehouse.
